HAREF is a network of organisations and individual practitioners focused on reducing health inequalities and maximising wellbeing and health for people living in black and minority ethnic communities.

Working in partnership with key agencies in the health, local government, university, voluntary and community sectors we:

organise meetings where members share their expertise and co-operate around issues of diversity and health inequalities. Click here to find out more about HAREF meetings.

nurture, pilot, and are involved in, work to improve health outcomes for black and minority ethnic communities. Click here to find out more and for copies of reports.

support the engagement of people across black and minority ethnic communities in the commissioning and operational development of services. Click here for information.

provide regular information bulletins by email. You can access them here. Please email kate@haref.org.uk if you would like to join the mailing list or would like us to circulate information.

HAREF: The Health and Race Equality Forum is based in Newcastle upon Tyne. We started in the year 2000, when we were known as the Health Action Zone Race Area of Special Action. Click here for more information and to read past reports.

We became a charitable company in Summer 2012 and are now managed by voluntary trustees.

We currently employ a part-time Chief Executive, Kate Mukungu, and a part time Engagament Worker, Safia Ahmed.
